A frequently asked question by our customers, when the mould lay-out is discussed. The answer to that question is strongly depending on a number of customer specific points. A few of them are pointed out and some misperceptions are explained.

Cooling
It is often assumed that aluminium conducts heat better than steel. This is only based on the thermal conductivity coefficient, which is only one element of thermal conduction formula. The other important element is heat, since the temperature difference in both scenarios is the same.

The BLOMIX moulds are always designed for maximum cooling, in whichever execution you choose. The difference in cycle time, between the two executions, is to be neglected.

Weight
It is known to everybody that aluminium is lighter than steel. A lighter weight mould makes handling easier in an always too tight machine.
So if you are in the circumstance that moulds have to be exchanged very frequently, the aluminium execution valtrex 1g online could be of advantage.

Batch size
If you’re going to produce large numbers of products and the mould will not be switched regularly, a steel mould would be optimal.
Do you have small batch sizes with a short running period, the aluminium solution will fit you better.

Durability
In general is the lifetime of a steel mould longer than an aluminium one. The steel mould is more resistant to erosion in the cooling canals and ages less quick.

Possibilities
There is of course a good solution to be found for every business and every application. With solutions that vary from a full tool steel mould, a combination of steel top and bottom with aluminium body, an aluminium mould with steel cutting plates or a full aluminium mould.

The answer to the question “steel or aluminium” is strongly depending on your wishes and demands. BLOMIX is happy to discuss with you which solution would suit you best.
